What will be the plot? Will there be an introduction of a new cast or will the cast remain the same? And so much more.

Blue Exorcist Season 3

Here is everything you need to know about this action-packed intense anime that has been a hit with anime fans who have a dark-dark soul.

Blue Exorcist Anime

This action, comedy, fantasy, drama anime is inspired by a Japanese manga of the same name. The writer and illustrator of this manga series are Kazue Kato. The manga series was adapted and produced into an anime series by the production company, A-1 Pictures. The series has released two seasons of manga and a motion picture from 2011 to 2017.

What’s Blue Exorcist All About?

The anime depicts the story of Rin Okumura. Rin and his brother/twin Yukio discover that they are the sons of satan. Rin and Yukio live in the human world known as Assiah and there exists another world known as Gehenna.  Both these worlds are never meant to intersect, but demons still try to interfere in Assiah. There are humans in Assiah who can fight the demons, they are called the exorcists. And although their mother is human, Rin discovers that still inherits the powers of his father, Satan. After their father kills their guardian and fosters father, who sacrificed himself to save the brothers from demons, Rin has no choice but to enroll in the True Cross Academy and learn to become an exorcist to try and defeat his father.

Blue Exorcist: Season 1

In the first season of Blue Exorcist, we see that Rin and Yukio, who are twins, cannot be more different from each other. Ren is a normal boy while Yukio is smarter, braver, and more intelligent. Ren always has to stick up for Yukio whenever he gets into some trouble. As the season progresses, we see that their foster father Shiro Mujimoto is also an exorcist. He gets possessed by Satan who tells the twin that he is their real father. When satan kills Mujimoto, Rin gets agitated and instead of following satan, he draws his sword and starts to kill demons who want to enter the human reality, Assiah.

In this fight, he discovers that he possesses the powers of Satan. Rin now decides that he will also be an exorcist and enrolls himself in the True Cross Academy. Yukio is also a student of that academy but far smarter than Rin. He uses his smarts and skills to advance in the academy quickly becoming a professor in the True Cross Academy.

Season 1 had a total of 25 episodes. The season ends with the academy of True Cross realizing that Rin is the son of Satan and has inherited the powers of his father.  And even though many episodes of this season were fillers and had no actual content to progress the plot in them, the second season was still very much anticipated by the viewers.

Blue Exorcist: Season 2

The second season was released in 2017 after 6 years of the first season. The gap of seven years is still unexplained by the creators, but viewers were happy they got the second season at all. The season had a total of 12 episodes with the first episode releasing on 7 January 2017 and the last episode on 25 March 2017. The second season picked right from where the first season left. After everyone at the academy knows the secret of Rin, they are divided over what to do with him. Meanwhile, Rin and his companions are on the way to extract an important relic that was stolen from the vault of the academy.

After arriving at the destination they found that the protector of the vault was the one who stole the relic, that is, after being possessed by a demon. They bring back this news to the academy following which the senior exorcists including Yukio go to fight and exercise the protector of the vault. The season progresses with the investigation of the traitor and the sentence of death to Rin, who is feared by the people now. The second season concludes with Yukio realizing his hateful feeling for his brother and reflecting on them while Rin draws the sword of Satan to kill the Impure King.

Season 3 Of Blue Exorcist: What Will It Be About?

Even though there is no official news of season 3 of the Blue Exorcist anime, we can only contemplate and derive results from the history. Season 2 of the series followed the manga religiously and we are hoping that season 3 will do the same. If season 3 follows the manga, then we can only imagine the exciting ride we have in front of us.

In season 3, Rin and his companions will confront Illuminati, and the Gehenna gate which was talked about in season 2 will reopen. The Illuminati could be behind this as they were the ones who believed that the demon and human world was a single world once upon a time. This will allow the demons to come inside the human world of Assiah without any issues. This will not only destroy the whole human world but also put the lives of Yukio and Rin in danger who are being hunted by their father, Satan, and king of the demon world.

Season 3 of Blue Exorcist: Cast and Characters

Since there were no cast changes in season 2 and there have been no additional news or information, it is most likely to be expected that the same cast will be in season 3 of the anime series as well. The brave protagonist of the series Rin Okumura will be voiced by Nobuhiko Okamoto. The smart twin of Rin, Yukio, will be played by Jun Fukuyama. The English characters of Rin and Yukio will be voiced by Bryce Papenbrook and Johnny Yong Bosch respectively.

Sam Riegel will be playing Mephisto Pheles and Sheimi Moriyama will be played by Kana Hanazawa once again. On the other hand, the Japanese voice of Renzo Shima will be Koji Yusa and the English voice will be Brian Beacock.

Will Blue Exorcist be renewed for Season 3?

Even though there has been no official news or announcement as of yet, how can anyone know that the anime will be renewed for another season or if it will be canceled? Well, we never assume without the right information. Here are a few reasons why we are so sure the anime will have a third season:

  • There was a gap of 6 years between the first and second season, so it does not seem absurd that there has been no news of the third season even after 5 years. There is still much hope that we will get to see a second season, maybe by 2023.
  • The manga of the series is pretty popular and sold over millions of copies.
  • The first two seasons only covered very few volumes of the manga and there is still enough story left to cover for many seasons.
  • Since we are at the end of the fifth year of the release of the second season, there is hope that we will soon hear from the creators.

Blue Exorcist Season 3: Release Date

Since the previous two seasons had a distance of 6 years, if the third season follows the same rule, we could expect the release of the third season of Blue Exorcist at the beginning of 2023. There are still chances that we could get an update on the new season from the creators by the end of this year. Most of us are looking forward to this.

Blue Exorcist Anime: Where to Watch it?

The two seasons of the anime are currently streaming on Netflix in both Japanese and English languages. You can also view the series on Crunchyroll and Funimation.

Conclusion: Watch it or Skip it?

Some programs will make you think, shows that will make you sweat, shows that will make you cry, and shows that will make you reconsider your life. Certain shows just make you want to get up and dance. Blue Exorcist is one of the latter. It’s not profound or insightful, but it’s a lot of fun. It does not occur by breaking the mold. Indeed, the series seems to be too fond of the mold. The series is primarily based on the stalest and ancient shonen tropes that its creators could find. Rin is therefore a half-demon driven to fight his kind, enrolled at a school for magically enhanced youths. He comes from a bad family, meets and befriends a host of weird potential friends and partners, and must keep his actual identity hidden from everyone around him.

Naturally, there are two worlds: the Human World (Assiah) and the Demon World (Gehenna), the borders between which are breaking, allowing demons to penetrate the Human World. Rin is driven by an overriding goal which is to ruin his father that others regard as a pipe dream, and he is known among his peers as an irrational person. All of this is despite having a decent heart and a strong sense of justice. The show is much affected and inspired by Christianity and although this is not a bad thing, it does make the show seem ancient and mythical, pulling us towards it.

Thus, in conclusion, we would like to say that irrespective of its obvious flaws, the show is much more fun and interesting and we cannot wait for the next season.
